Uniform

At the Kingswood Secondary Academy we enforce our strict uniform policy rigorously. We believe that wearing our distinctive uniform gives our pupils a sense of belonging, helps foster pride in the Academy and stops pupils coming to school in inappropriate clothing or footwear. Pupils are our ambassadors in the community. Therefore, we expect all pupils to wear full uniform when travelling to and from the Academy, at all Academy functions, on extra-curricular visits and when taking part in sports events. Please note that we do not sell uniform at the Academy, it must be purchased online from our uniform suppliers, Price & Buckland - see details on how to do this at the bottom of this page.

It is compulsory for all pupils in Years 7 to 11 to wear a black blazer with the academy logo/badge. Blazers with the logo on can be purchased from Price & Buckland or, alternatively, badges from Price & Buckland can be purchased to sew on to blazers purchased from other suppliers. It is also compulsory for all students to wear their Student card, badge holder and lanyards. These are provided initially by the school but any that are lost or damaged must be replaced and paid for via the ParentPay shop.

Our Academy uniform consists of:

  • The Academy blazer is compulsory for all students - see note above.

  • An Academy tie. The tie should be worn long enough to reach the waistband. This should be at least 5 stripes long.

  • A white shirt which has a fastened top button and is long enough to be tucked into trousers or a skirt.

  • Black trousers or skirt. If a student chooses to wear a skirt, it must be the approved Academy skirt with the Academy badge on the waistband.

  • If a student chooses to wear trousers, they should be normal school-style ones. Jeans, cords, hipster or tight-fitting trousers / leggings are not appropriate. Combat-style trousers, e.g. with additional side pockets, are not allowed.

  • An Academy pullover with the Academy logo may also be worn but is not compulsory.

  • Black or grey socks with black trousers, neutral or black tights with skirts.

  • Black leather or leather-style traditional school shoes that can be polished with a heel no more than 2cm in height.  No boots or trainers, or trainer-style shoes such as Vans or Converse are allowed. Girls’ ballet-type footwear is not acceptable.

Physical education kit for all years

It is compulsory for all pupils to have :

  • Academy short-sleeved unisex or girls fit polo shirt

  • Academy shorts

  • Suitable lace up non-marking trainers and socks

In addition, pupils can choose to wear the Academy Zip Top, Academy Sports Sweat shirt, Academy Tracksuit bottoms, Academy Leggings or plain black (non-branded) sports tracksuit bottoms or sport leggings (normal clothing leggings are not suitable).

The Principal's decision about all uniform and presentation issues is binding and final.

Jewellery:  To aid in the creation of a professional learning environment, we insist students only wear one pair of small gold or silver stud earrings in the lobes of their ears. The studs should not be shaped or have coloured or diamante inserts.  In addition, nose studs and other facial jewellery are not acceptable. Retainers, stretchers and bars of any kind are not permitted. Students may wear one small, plain ring.

Hair and make-up:  Hair styles should not be excessive and should have a natural colour/tone – lines or designs may not be cut into the hair.  Students with long hair, i.e. hair on or below the shoulder, must carry a dark-coloured hair bobble whilst on the Academy site.  Long hair must be tied back when instructed by staff e.g. in practical subjects, Art, Design Technology, PE, Science practicals etc.

Nail varnish, nail extensions, false eye-lashes are not allowed and students will be asked to remove them.

Students are allowed to wear discrete make-up including foundation and mascara and may wear short French polish tips that should not extend more than 5mm beyond the natural length of the student’s finger.

Coats: Students may require a warm coat for the journey to and from the Academy.  Students are expected to carry a suitable, broad-strapped rucksack which is large enough to carry all equipment, i.e. A4 folders and PE kit.  Handbags are not allowed.

Food and drink: No chewing gum, energy drinks, fizzy drinks or confectionery of any kind.

Basic Equipment:  All pupils are expected to bring basic school equipment including a pen, pencil, ruler and calculator. As a minimum, it is strongly advised that pupils should bring the following items to the Academy every day:

  • School planner
  • 2 x Pens (Black or Blue)
  • 1 x Red Pen
  • Pencil x 2
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Ruler
  • Rubber/eraser
  • Scientific calculator

Pupils will also be required to have a reading book with them and as necessary, pupils will also be expected to bring specialist equipment e.g. maths equipment, cooking ingredients etc.

Pupils are also expected to have their correctly coloured lanyard, badge holder and student ID card.

Uniform and equipment will be checked every morning in Form Time and will be followed up with detentions of 20 minutes after school with the Pastoral Team for those who do not bring in the correct equipment necessary to get them prepared for the day.

Bikes and scooters - are left at the pupil’s own risk. We would strongly recommend that students use a strong D lock to secure these.

Electric Scooters are not allowed on the Academy premises.

Electrical items, such as mobile phones, iPods or interactive watches should not be seen or used on the Academy site.  If a student chooses to bring a phone to the Academy, then it should be switched off and remain in their bag or locker.

The Academy accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen personal items on the Academy site.

The Principal’s decision about all uniform and presentation issues is binding and final.
