Auditions for the Queen!

Members of the local community will have the opportunity to be part of a special performance being staged for the Queen when she visits Corby next month. Singers, actors and dancers can audition for the opportunity to be part of the production, which is expected to involve around 50 local performers.

Auditions are being held on Monday 28 May from 6.30pm till 9.30pm for a community choir being formed especially for this prestigious event. Anyone aged 14 and over is welcome to apply, including those who are members of existing choirs. This group will be led by musical director Gareth Fuller.

A physical theatre piece will be directed by Scott Graham, the Corby-born Artistic Director of internationally-acclaimed theatre company Frantic Assembly. Performers aged between 14 and 30 can audition for this on Tuesday 29 May from 6pm till 9.30pm.

Award-winning Northamptonshire choreographer Marso Riviere, who runs the Moves classes at The Core, will be working with local contemporary, street and break dancers on an original piece as part of the performance. Auditions for dancers, aged 13 upwards, will be on Wednesday 30 May from 6pm till 9pm.

Music for the performance will be provided by the It’s Our Music project, a collaboration between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and local young musicians.

The performance is being co-ordinated by The Core at Corby Cube. Anyone interested in taking part in this exciting event should contact Chris Sudworth, Creative Director of The Core, by calling 01536 470478 or emailing getinvolved@thecorecorby.com to find out more and to book a place at the auditions.

Chris Sudworth commented: “It’s a great boost for Corby that Her Majesty is visiting the town as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. We’ve got a wealth of artistic talent in the area, so I’m delighted that people from a wide range of Corby’s communities will have the chance to be involved in putting together a really memorable performance that will celebrate the energy and unique identity of the town.”
