The Northamptonshire County Schools Challenge

All Year 9 students recently participated in a project working with the Northamptonshire Police, Northamptonshire Crime Stoppers, The Arson Task Force and the Fire and Rescue Service.   Students were introduced to a powerful concept which inspired this year’s challenge. The aim of the countywide partnership initiative was to raise awareness and develop creative ways to tackle a social problem in the county. This year’s theme focused on tackling alcohol related anti-social behaviour.

Following an in-school ‘Dragon’s Den’ Final to raise awareness of the issue, three students were selected to participate in a Semi-Final where they presented their projects in front of a distinguished panel of judges. Emma Newlands, Emily Summerfield and Beth Walker successfully advanced through to the Grand Final which took place on Wednesday 2nd July at the Castle Theatre, Wellinborough. The students competed against seven schools from across the county. They presented their interactive ‘Booze Book’ articulately and confidently to an audience of family, friends and members from Northamptonshire Police. Their mature approach to a sensitive issue was apparent and their behaviour impeccable.

I am delighted to announce Kingswood Secondary Academy won ‘Best Innovation’ and was presented with a trophy and certificates. It was an excellent evening and I am proud of our ambassador students. Well done to all Year 9 students, in particular our three finalists.
