Kingswood Secondary Academy

Ofsted Good

Message from Principal

Welcome back!

I hope you had an enjoyable week away from Academy life. We return to a strangely short term, just four weeks and four days with Good Friday falling on 25 March and the start of the Easter holiday.  Despite this short term there is much to do.

Significantly, Year 11 and the Sixth Form are running into the exam preparation period with courses being finished off and revision starting in earnest.  In order to support our pupils who are preparing for exams we are running supervised study support after school each day excluding Fridays.  It is an excellent resource for pupils to attend, particularly those who might find it a little more difficult to concentrate and complete homework and revision at home!  You may get a call from the Head of Year 11 if your son/daughter has been identified as a pupil who would particularly benefit from the after school support.  In these cases we would ask you please to support us in encouraging your son/daughter to attend so that we can help them prepare for their exams as effectively as possible.

There are also some whole year group support sessions being run about exam performance and preparing mentally.  It is a stressful time and we recognise this, which is why we are asking an excellent external agency to come in and work with our Year 11 pupils.

I am pleased to announce that I have been very lucky in recruiting two members of staff to important   senior Deputy Principal positions within the Academy.  Mr Lawson will become a Deputy Principal (currently an Assistant Principal here at KSA) after Easter in charge of the curriculum and the quality of teaching and learning.  Mr Van Lier will be joining the school after Easter and will be in charge of the   personal development, behaviour and welfare of pupils.  Congratulations to both of them on their appointments.

I would also like to publicly thank the pupils who took part in the interview process for these two posts.  Their questioning, insight and recommendations were so important in my decision making process.

Here’s to a busy and productive term!

Regards

Mr A Burton

Principal
