Petitioning One Direction

Student Voice has been involved in Big Bullying, which One Direction is supporting.  Kirsty Davies (Year 9) has been chosen to represent the UK to publicise this project.  Please read on for Kirsty's letter and information on how to sign the petition.

"Dear Zayn, Liam, Niall, Harry and Louis,

There's a growing problem that worries me: cyberbullying.

Bullies target many young people on the Internet. This year I was bullied online and at school. It was really hard and I didn’t speak to many people about it, not even my parents. But then I trained to be a BeatBullying mentor. It helped me learn what to do to cope and now I speak to other young people who are going through the same thing. It’s really great to know that I’ve been able to help other people.

I’ve been a 1D fan since the X Factor and I know you’ve also been affected by this problem. Zayn the most, on twitter, Liam was targeted by some bullies at school, Harry was bullied when 1D first formed. When you were filming 'a year in the making' and Harry was asked about his feelings about the comments, he began crying. All of the 1D members have received some sort of bullying.

Liam had the courage to stand up for himself and Zayn re-opened his profile because he had the strength to ignore who was insulting him, but not everyone is this strong.

I know that you are writing your new album and so, with One Direction fans from around the world, I am asking you to dedicate a song on your new album to the problem of cyberbullying.

It will let people know that cyberbullying is real and it can affect anyone. It will bring people closer and help your fans talk about the problem. It will also let all the Directioners know we have support from our idols.

I hope you will be able to do this for us.

Thank you,
Kirsty"
