Living for Sport

Sky Sports Living for Sport uses sport stars and sport skills to improve young people’s lives. This free initiative for 11-16 year olds is available to all secondary schools in the UK.

The programme is designed to inspire and support every participant in areas relevant to them whether it’s improving confidence, attainment at school or leading a healthier lifestyle.

The following account is by Ellie Borg Year 9, who is currently taking part in the program.

“Mrs Copas chose a group of young people from within school who she believed have a flair for sport but also met the criteria of the programme.  It is hoped the programme will improve attendance and behaviour issues as doing something fun and worthwhile will make them want to re-engage with school life.

I was chosen for the ‘Living for Sport’ programme due to my behaviour but also because I am sporty. In the programme we have the chance to run an afterschool dodgeball club, get a sport qualification and best of all improve our behaviour and attendance.  So far, I have enjoyed taking part as it is fun and we get to do a variety of dodgeball activities.

One positive was at the beginning of the day most of the group were not focused, talking etc.  However, by the end of the day everyone was listening, taking part in discussions and were not doing anything they were not supposed to!”
