World Maths Day

This year’s World Maths Day took place on Wednesday 3rd March 2010.  1,133,245 students from 56,082 schools in 11,456 cities/towns from 235 countries took part, this included 332 students from the Kingswood School.

Competitors had to answer mental maths questions and received 1 point for each correct answer.  Minted gold medals were awarded to the top 50 students and a trophy awarded to each of the top 50 classes in the world.  The overall winner – the world champion – scored 43,007 points (in 1 day!!)

Anyone who scored 4,000 points or more was awarded with a gold certificate, everyone else received a participation certificate.  Students had one IT Maths lesson to get a good start, and then many continued the work at home.

This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to practice their mental skills and agility by competing against others all over the world in real time.

All students in Year 7 to 9 have a username and password and can access the Mathematics website at home, to improve their mental skills on a regular basis.

Next year, this event becomes part of the World Education Games.

Listed below are the top ten scorers in each year group. Well done to all who participated in this event.
