Lichtenstein is one of the great American artists of the twentieth century and the exhibition brought together 125 of his most definitive paintings and sculptures. He is renowned for his works based on comic strips and advertising imagery, coloured with his signature hand-painted Benday dots. The artist’s rich and expansive practice was represented by a wide range of materials, including paintings on Rowlux and steel, as well as sculptures in ceramic and brass and a selection of previously unseen drawings, collages and works on paper.

Mandy Stevenson, Librarian, who accompanied the students wrote:

"We ploughed through the hustle and bustle of London with Mrs Staddon, Art Department, pointing out various landmarks as we passed by. We arrived at the Tate Modern and found a very chilly London. The Tate was busy, particularly with other European students. The Lichtenstein exhibition – was the first comprehensive account of his art since his death. We visited thirteen rooms of art – some works familiar to us and others that we discovered. We all had a brilliant day and arrived home tired and happy."
