Aardman Charity Day

Thursday saw the first of this year’s House Charity Days.  ‘Help for Heroes’ is Aardman’s chosen charity.

The day began with over 50 students trying to score penalty shots against Mr Wonfor and Mr Gadsby. Both were suitably exhausted after an hour of play with no gloves! Some fabulous efforts led to an overall winner from each year group. Congratulations go to:

Year 7:  Corbin Napier

Year 8: Adam Witkowski

Year 9: Morgan Winter

Year 10: William McGilvery

There were more fabulous events during the day including Henna tattoos, face painting, cake making and a Christmas craft workshop.  One of the most popular events of the day was the games console challenge attended by over 60 students! Congratulations to the victor of the event Harley Jeffs in Year 7. Second place to Bradley Slaven and third place to Aidan Welsh. Well Done.

The grand finale involved more than 70 students throwing wet sponges and beans….yes beans…….at selected staff. It was all done with great spirit and fun. Mr Lawson and Mr Gadsby took the hardest hits, but we all knew that was going to happen!

A special mention is needed for all of the cadets who spent the day in uniform promoting, selling, helping and being generally superb.  A big thank you to all staff and students involved.  A great atmosphere and a great day.

Just under £500 was raised for 'Help for Heroes' – amazing!

A wonderful day, full of fun and good will. The sight of henna tattoos, intricate face painting and sodden teachers bought a smile to everyone’s faces. Army cadets marching proudly around corridors pedaling tickets and goods contributed to a whole new era and unique experience at The Kingswood School.”  Mrs. Bateman

A truly fantastic day which yet again brought out the true Kingswood spirit in both students and staff alike. It was incredible to observe the vibe around the school today, everyone was buzzing with excitement and anticipation and it all culminated in a true Kingswood style!!! Staff are never afraid to get stuck in and get their hands dirty however most credit goes to our wonderful students!!! Congratulations to one and all!!! Really proud of everyone! Go Aardman!” Mrs Hakobyan

Student comments:

It was a good day. I scored 3 goals past Mr Wonfor!” Adam Witkowksi

“I loved the teacher stocks; it was a great way to let out steam.” Emilio Calardo

"I liked getting a henna tattoo it is a good thing to do at our age as we can not have real ones!”

“It was funny, everyone was going for it! There were multiple teachers involved but most people threw sponges at Mr Gadsby! If you paid an extra £1 you could throw sponges with beans on.” Ryan Shaw- McGilly

“I did the Christmas crafts, it was good. At the end you got to take home a lovely decoration that you had made yourself to put on your tree.” Amy Beer.

“Students from the Kingswood School and the Corby 111 Detachment of E Company, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force were very eager to assist in fundraising for Help for Heroes. Not only did this allow the cadets to pass their Army in the Community subject but it allowed them to be part of raising money for something they feel very strongly about.  Throughout the day the cadets were happy to help in each of the events during the day, getting involved with their fellow students and giving off a ‘soldier-like’ image.  Personally as their sergeant I am thoroughly impressed with the Cadets contributions and feel they worked so hard all day. Being in uniform is a nerve racking thing to do and they should all be proud of themselves and what they represent.”   Kai Smales.
